Willows residents are mourning the loss of a man who died in an apparent single vehicle accident over the weekend.
23-year-old Fabian Gutierrez was found dead Sunday around 7:30 a.m. in his overturned 1994 Honda Civic at the corner of Highway 99 West and County Road 57.
His vehicle landed upside down on the far edge of a partially filled culvert that sits on the southwest corner of the intersection.
It's unknown when the crash occurred but Willows Police said Monday it likely happened sometime overnight Saturday. A passerby finally spotted the vehicle once it was light outside.
Officers arrived on scene, entered the water and found Gutierrez's body.
On Monday, friends erected a small memorial that included a cross and a candle near the crash.
They called Gutierrez a "good guy" and said he was loved by many in the community.
Gutierrez attended Willows High School and was currently working at the Starbucks in town.
Friends also told KRCR that he went to school to get his massage license and "had a bright future."
They suggested he was likely on his way to his girlfriend's house at the time.
Police are still trying to work out how Gutierrez crashed and are hoping surveillance footage from a nearby 76 Station will help.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Willows Police Department at 530-934-3456.
