PARADISE, Calif. -

A Paradise woman was rescued from her burning mobile home Wednesday but her daughter died in the blaze.

The fire at the Apple Tree Mobile Home Park of Clark Road started around 11:15 a.m.

Two CAL FIRE battalion chiefs at nearby Station 35 witnessed smoke billowing into the sky, rushing to the scene before the fire was reported.

CAL FIRE's Eric Rapp quickly grabbed one of two people inside, helping her to safety.

"I was the first one through the door and ended up pulling her out," Rapp said. "The smoke and fire were both banking down on her backside. It was already rolling out under the eaves to the exterior."

Due to the severity of the fire and the fact that the first responders were without backup, they were forced to back off, knowing that another person was inside.

"We were unprotected without a hose line and it looked like it was going to flash inside within minutes," Rapp said.

An unidentified woman was found after crews were able to enter the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other battalion chief first on the scene suffered a leg injury after he fell through a ramp leading up to the home.

Five engines, air support, paramedics, Butte County sheriffs deputies and Paradise police officers all responded.

The backside of the mobile home was completely destroyed.

A cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
