CHICO, Calif. -

A well-traveled Chico bike path was the scene of an armed robbery by a knife-wielding suspect.  The robbery happened along the bike path near West Sacramento and Cedar Street in Chico late Wednesday night.

Police said a 26-year-old woman was walking along the bike path around 10:30 p.m. when a young man approached her on a bike and threatened her with a knife.

He demanded money while holding a knife toward her.  She gave him her purse and he rode off.  The woman was unharmed.

Locals like Angela O’Dell said the bike path, located behind Chico High School near the railroad tracks, is dangerous at night.

“I've walked down there at night,” said O’Dell.  “Years ago I walked down the street.  I hear gun shots going off, but I just kind of keep going.”

Bradley Dickison was riding his bike on the path Wednesday morning and agreed it isn’t safe, especially after dark.

“Oh, yeah, it's the hood,” said Dickison.  “I kind of expect it. It's crazy, it's getting worse and worse.”

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20’s, either white or Hispanic with a medium build.  He had a bandana over his face, and was riding a BMX-style bike.
