PARADISE, Calif. -

A Paradise woman is in the hospital with severe injuries after she collided with a truck while riding her bike.

It happened just after 7 p.m. Friday.

Police say Deanna Bau, 38, was riding her bicycle in the northbound lane of the entrance to the Safeway parking lot, against traffic, when she failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the westbound lane of Elliott Road.

There, she struck the front passenger side of a Dodge truck being driven by Oscar Torres, 31.

Investigators believe Bau was holding a soda and talking on a cell phone at the time of the crash.

She was taken by helicopter to Enloe Medical Center where she was admitted to the Neuro Trauma Unit.

Neither speed nor alcohol were believed to be factors in the crash.
